Roddy has been a United Domestic Workers member for the past 13 years, providing in-home-support services for seniors. He joined EHC in 2011. Originally from Hawaii but now a resident of City Heights, Roddy Jerome has a vested interest in what goes on in his community. He started to attend EHC community meetings in City Heights to learn how his neighborhood and the entire region are impacted by dirty energy, lack of good transportation, and a variety of other environmental justice issues.
Roddy attends and testifies at state energy hearings, San Diego City Council meetings about the City’s Climate Action Plan, and stays informed of all updates and changes. He attends SANDAG hearings on the Mid-City bike corridor, The Regional Plan, as well as a host of other projects. Roddy also enjoys traveling to Sacramento to lobby state legislators, advocating for his community and the San Diego Region.
Roddy has represented District 1 (Cherokee Point) on the City Heights Area Planning Committee (CHAPC) for 2 1/2 terms. As a member of the City Heights Built Environment Team (BET), he works closely with MidCityCAN, City Heights CDC, SD350, and various coalitions in striving to better our communities.
The aspect of community advocacy Roddy enjoys most is knocking on doors and informing his friends and neighbors about the common issues that affect all of us, urging them to get involved. Roddy continues his involvement with City Heights and EHC and is a perfect example of social change for justice.
