Trade and globalization
Free trade and corporate globalization have resulted in unprecedented concentrations of economic and political power in the hands of several hundred transnational corporations and banks, aided by global bureaucracies like the World Trade Organization. This system, which emerged after World War II, is a threat today to communities everywhere. By putting profits over people, corporate globalization weakens labor rights, endangers the health of the planet, increases inequality, and undermines democracy. BEJC and the Colectivo work to make the local-to-global connections that expose the failure of corporate globalization to build a world where environmental and social justice prevail.

BEJC’s report Globalization at the Crossroads and the film Maquilápolis, in which Tijuana women workers (including Colectivo members) tell their stories, offer perspectives on what corporate globalization means at the grassroots.
